Android Market To Reach 100,000 Apps

The Android Market is showing some exponential growth according to It’s well on the way of reaching 100,000 apps by this month and that’s a big leap compared to around 6,000 apps it has in the Market place a year ago. Other interesting data presented is the growth for new applications being churned out every month now already hitting more than 15,000 per month. Quantity is one thing but hopefully quality is not sacrificed as well just to match the amount of apps currently in the iPhone App Store.

Flash Lite Made Japanese Entrepreneur a Billionaire

This was reported some time back in March, but thought I just keep an archive of the news where a Japanese entrepreneur by name of Tanaka founder founder and CEO of JASDAQ-listed Gree in Tokyo became a billionaire from creating socially connected Flash Lite mobile games for the Japanese market. We hear iPhone developers becoming instant millionaires but a billionaire from developing flash games? That’s just awesome.

iOS vs Android, Developers Slowly Converging

Up till now, nobody really knows how many registered developers there are for both the Apple’s App Store and Android’s Market. AppStore HQ decided to dig in deep and came up with the following result:-

  • 43,185, or 80 percent, develop solely for Apple’s iOS.
  • 8,787, or 17 percent, develop solely for Google’s Android platform.
  • 1,412, or 3 percent, develop for both.

Also interestingly enough, a  mobile developer survey shows that developers don’t really care which platform triumphs but which platform actually makes more money for them. Many of the big players for the iPhone market are already developing for both platforms and this is going to increase if Android’s momentum isn’t stopping any time soon.

Successful Nokia Ovi Store Publishers / Developers

While all the focus is on the iPhone App Store, Nokia happens to also have a blog dedicated to show the success of its own Nokia Ovi Store. You can check it out at this link here. Here are some of the recent successful apps:-

Labyrinth Touch

Labyrinth Lite Touch

It didn’t mention the total downloads for this app which is priced at USD2.29 but the lite version has been downloaded more than 1 million times. Developed by Offscreen Technologies, specializing in high quality touch-optimized apps for Symbian and Maemo touch devices, is a prolific developer with over 50 apps, games and ebooks on the Ovi Store to date. The response from consumers has been overwhelmingly positive, with titles downloaded more than 34 million times in over 200 countries.

Playlist DJ

Playlist DJ

This seems to be a free app. A mobile music tool for creating instant, randomized playlists based on users’ moods or favorite songs. Developed by Syntonetic, Playlist DJ was a finalist in the Music App category in the Ovi Daily App blog’s Must-Have App of the Year Awards. It was downloaded by over one million users in 200 different countries, from Afghanistan to Zimbabwe, since September 2009.

Farm Frenzy

Farm Frenzy

Seems to remind me of FarmVille except that this is more like farming animals. Priced at USD2.29 and also comes with a free lite version, this game has been downloaded over six million times in over 200 countries. Developed by HeroCraft Ltd, a leading mobile game developer and publishing company dedicated to producing high quality games for the U.S., European and Asian mobile game markets.
