App Store Alternative?

I came across this company while attending Open Web Asia 2010 and I was actually surprised that they managed to get hold of such a domain name. This seems to be a new company based in Singapore and they are introducing a concept they call The Cross-Platform App Wholesale Marketplace.

According to them, they are not actually an App Store but provide facilities such as payment processing, marketing, downloads, etc for the product owners (app developers). There is no setup fees or monthly fees but only charges 5% of the app download price and 95% of the profit goes back to the developer.

There’s also some money to be made for bloggers/publishers. They introduced something called “Smart Widgets” where it showcases relevant local geographical advertisements for mobile apps on your website/blog. You can check out how those banners look like over here. I guess this is a good alternative for mobile app developers to be found amidst the tens of thousands of apps already in the app stores. They are still in beta and is not fully live yet.

They are currently giving 5000 free ad impressions for app developers which I believe will be displayed in their Smart Widgets and website publishers will get 100% payout for the first 2 months when it’s launched. I have signed up for it but unfortunately I think the private beta invites are already closed. There’s also not much info on what mobile platform it actually supports, be it iPhone, Android or others. Guess we’ll have to wait for it to go live.
